Hipposideros
Armiger
pen & ink on A6 paper
Hipposideros armiger is widespread
throughout Asia, including north-eastern India
and Nepal through Myanmar to southern China, Thailand
and Malaysia west to Vietnam. It appears relatively
common in Vietnam, although some researchers consider
it an obligate cave-dwelling species and therefore
largely confined to karst areas. This notion is
challenged by its capture in non-karst forest
areas where no caves exist, although as one of
the largest and robustly built leaf-nosed bats
in Indochina it is likely capable of travelling
long distances in a single night.
